Webb8 dec. 2011 · The Shannon equitability index is simply the Shannon diversity index divided by the maximum diversity. This normalizes the Shannon diversity index to a value between 0 and 1. Note that lower values indicate more diversity while higher values indicate less diversity. Specifically, an index value of 1 means that all groups have the same frequency. WebbShannon or Shannon–Weaver (or Shannon–Wiener) index is defined as H' = -\sum_i p_i \log_ {b} p_i H ′ =−∑i pi logb pi, where p_i pi is the proportional abundance of species i i and b b is the base of the logarithm. It is most popular to use natural logarithms, but some argue for base b = 2 b =2 (which makes sense, but no real difference).
